How to choose the right diaper size?

Here you will find weight and age ranges. Even if the baby is in the upper weight range of a given size, the diaper will be fine. If the diaper is too big, there is a risk of leakage.

In order for a diaper in size S to fit longer, we recommend choosing a second poach in size M/L/XL. Cotton panties are very flexible and, for example, size S often fits even when the child is 9 kg. However, from the weight of 7.5-9 kg, larger inserts and thus a larger poach will work better. The M/L/XL poach will be suitable also for S panties.

How many diapers do I need?

The assumption for Bloomi diapers is that we replace the  insert and the poach more often than the cotton panties. Practically, 5-6 panties will be enough, with approx. 10 poaches and 20 inserts.

Are cloth diapers comfortable for the baby?

Yes, very much! Reusable diapers have very good air circulation, thanks to which children do not have nappy rash caused by the fact that the skin does not breathe under the diaper. They are soft. As a mother of two very sensitive children, I paid special attention to ensure that the diaper was comfortable, i.e. delicate labels, of course hidden, welts so that they did not pinch in the groin area and soft cotton.

What material are Bloomi diapers made of?

The outer part, panties, is made of cotton with elastane.

The poach is made of PUL, i.e. polyester laminated with a vapor-permeable membrane, so that the child’s skin breathes, but the moisture from the insert does not leak.

The inserts are made of organic cotton or bamboo viscose with the addition of polyester.

What needs to be done before first use?

It is best to wash the diaper. We suggest you read the washing instructions first.

The inserts should be washed 5-6 times to obtain the right absorbency. They are made of natural materials and their fibers contain vegetable oils. These oils should be washed so that the insert gains good absorbency. They get it with subsequent washes. You can use the inserts after the first or second wash, but they will need to be replaced sooner.

There is one more way to rinse out the oils faster. You can soak the inserts overnight in water with the addition of dishwashing liquid (ordinary, clear liquid, not lotion).

What to do with solid waste?

We throw it into the toilet and then rinse the insert under the tap.

Do I have to change the diaper after every pee?

No, the Bloomi inserts are highly absorbent. 

How long will one diaper size last?

It is difficult to give a clear answer to this question. Some children end up in the panty size M, i.e. they only use sizes S and M, others go up to panty size L. Size XL is already a very large size. A lot depends on the build of the child.

Will the inserts wear out?

No, on the contrary: they become more absorbent with each wash.

Do reusable diapers need to be boiled, as our grandmothers did with tetra?

Not at all. Today we have much better detergents and washing equipment.

Dangerous bacteria die in washing at 60 degrees with the addition of detergent. See below how to wash.

How to wash?

Before throwing the diaper into the washing machine, remove the solid waste from the inserts to the toilet. There is no need to do this if the baby is exclusively breastfed. Such an insert can be rinsed under the tap.

In short: the inserts are dirty items, so you need to wash them thoroughly. They are made of such materials that they can be washed at high temperatures, powder to white and use a tumble dryer. We treat panties as any other cotton clothes. Preferably at max 40 degrees, with a washing liquid or powder for colors. Then the panties will look beautiful longer. With poaches, you have to be careful about very high temperatures, e.g. do not put it directly on a hot radiator because the laminate that prevents leakage, can be damaged.

And now in more detail:

PANTIES

• it is best to wash at 40 degrees C. Bloomi panties are made of cotton, if they are washed at a temperature of up to 40 degrees C, they will retain their color for the longest time. The panty does not need to be washed at high temperatures;

• Can be tumble dried or tumble dried on a “delicate” setting;

• Panties can be washed in the same detergent as other clothes;

• In panties fastened with Velcro, the Velcro fasteners should be fastened to the plugs sewn in for this purpose.

POACHES

• We wash it at a maximum of 60 degrees C;

• Do not tumble dry. The Bloomi poach is covered with a vapor-permeable laminate, which will be damaged in contact with a hot source of heat. The poach dries very quickly. After washing, you can briefly wrap, e.g. in a towel. This will speed it up even more;

• Do not place on a hot radiator. This may damage the laminate;

• Do not iron.

INSERTS

• We wash them at 60 degrees C;

• The washing machine should be filled to a maximum of ¾ of its capacity. The inserts will wash better then;

• It is best to run the rinse only before the main wash;

• Wash in a longer cycle, suitable for cotton;

• It is best to wash the inserts at least every two days;

• It is best to wash with an extra rinse cycle;

• To wash the inserts, we use powders for washing white things, containing oxygen-based bleaching compounds;

• If you use a powder that contains TAED activator, you do not need to add additional sanitizer;

• Can be tumble dried;

• We use the full dose of powder recommended by the manufacturer for the washing cycle;

• If there is foam in the drum at the end of the rinse phase, run one more rinse;

• To wash the inserts, we do NOT use: homemade powders, soap nuts, washing liquids or softeners. Liquids stick to the fibers of the inserts and the insert becomes less absorbent over time. If you used fluids and noticed that the pads have become less absorbent, don’t worry, it’s enough to degrease them. For this purpose, soak the inserts for about 3 hours in warm water with the addition of dishwashing liquid (ordinary liquid without lotions) and then rinse thoroughly.

What detergent should I use to wash diapers?

Inserts and poach: we use washing powder for white laundry, containing oxygen-based bleaching compounds. Do not use home-made powders, soap nuts or washing liquids. We also do not use fabric softeners.

Panties: here you have freedom. The panties are made of cotton. If you want them to retain their strong color for as long as possible, wash with powder or liquid to the color. If you wash with white powder, the fabric will fade slightly.

Do Bloomi inserts need to be boiled to sanitize them?

No. All you need to do is wash the inserts at 60 degrees. If you use a powder for washing white things containing oxygen-based bleaching compounds and an activator with TAED in the composition, you do not need to add a disinfectant. If you use a powder that does not have TAED, add sanitizer to your laundry.

Can diapers be washed with other clothes?

Yes, put them on the rinse cycle early.

It is best if you wash the panties with, for example, clothes, and the inserts and inserts with towels, bedding, baby clothes.

How to dry Bloomi diapers?

Panties: preferably traditional, air dry, but you can tumble dry on a delicate setting. Do not hang in full sun as cotton will fade.

Poach: Do not use a tumble dryer. The Bloomi poach dries very quickly. You can wrap it briefly in a towel to help it dry faster. If you really want to use a tumble dryer, dry in a bag so that the laminate does not come into direct contact with the drum and in a delicate program.

Inserts: you can use a tumble dryer or dry traditionally.

Why did Bloomi inserts become less absorbent?

If the inserts were washed with a washing liquid or creams were used, then the inserts could get greasy and lose their previous absorbency. We have to degrease them.

For this purpose, soak the inserts for about 3 hours in warm water with the addition of dishwashing liquid (ordinary liquid without lotions) and then rinse thoroughly.

Why does the diaper hmm … smells as soon as the baby wets it?

The reason for this may be:

• using too little powder. Check the hardness of the water where you live and check the manufacturer’s recommended amount of detergent for that water hardness;

• After previous use, you did not throw all the solid waste into the toilet;

• Your baby is teething;

All this boils down to the fact that the inserts must be properly washed. We do the so-called stripping or removal of “deposits”.

Add half a glass of citric acid to about 5 liters of hot water. Put the washed, dried inserts into the water prepared in this way and soak them overnight. After this time, put the inserts into the washing machine and turn on the rinse cycle with spinning. Then we start the washing cycle at 60 degrees, but without the addition of powder. If the water in the drum foams, run another rinse cycle.

The diaper is leaking, what do I do?

• make sure you are putting the insert into the poach correctly. The Bloomi insert should fill the poach along the length;

• make sure you are not using inserts that are too narrow. If you use inserts with a width of 9 cm for the M/L/XL poach, groin leaks may occur. Try using a wider insert;

• make sure the inserts you use are absorbent enough. If the diaper has leaked and the insert is completely wet, the insert may be too absorbent. Then you can strengthen the absorbency additionally, e.g. with a booster or use a larger insert or with more layers;

• check what detergent you wash in. Inserts should be washed with washing powder. Inserts should not be washed in liquid laundry detergent or use fabric softeners. It may happen that the inserts have become greasy if they have not been properly washed. Then soak the inserts overnight or for at least 6 hours in warm water with the addition of dishwashing liquid (ordinary liquid without lotions) and then rinse thoroughly. Wash them using a wash cycle but without powder. Repeat the process as many times as necessary until the water in the washing machine stops foaming;

• Make sure you did not use fabric softener to wash the inserts. The liquid clings to the fibers of the insert, reducing its absorbency. If you used a rinsing liquid, the inserts should be degreased as in the point above.
